It’s about your love for Pinterest pictures that borders on obsession. And we will admit that we too love a good Pinterest inspiration. An entire board dedicated to gorgeous interior design pics that would be fit for a Queen or the board we have kept hidden because it’s the wedding of your dreams and you’re single. But we have to take a step back and remember that we are unfortunately not Kate Middleton and being the peasants we are, can not afford that Pinterest dream wedding that only exists in, dreams.
The thing about these Pinterest photos is that they are mostly professionally staged, lighted and photographed. It’s the best of the best crammed into a photo to show you that you NEED that gold plated baby crib, that a wedding without 1 million flowers is no wedding at all, and alas (the reason we are here) that you HAVE to have that thick, luscious, slightly wavy, perfectly cool toned hair that the model in the picture you’re showing your hairstylist has. Not only that, but you would also like to have a ring light and professional photographer walk around with you from now on. If we sound bitter it’s because we are. We also want to look like that model with the perfect hair and probably perfect life. But again, we aren’t Kate Middleton, and neither are you. (But Kate, if you’re reading this, HEY GIRL!!! Gorgeous wedding, great job)
Now, this doesn’t mean that we don’t love inspiration pictures because we REALLY do. We need them in fact! It’s so nice when a client has a clear idea of what she wants and can show us a picture during the consultation. It’s so important to ensure the end result is the desired result. But that being said, we can’t wave a magic wand and change your hair texture or perfectly curl your hair every morning. There are a few reasons your Pinterest hairspiration looks so incredibly flawless. One reason being because it’s just a picture. It’s a snapshot of what that hair looks like in a certain lighting, in a certain style and tousled to perfection. That model will wake up tomorrow with messy hair and even slightly different tones depending on what lighting she’s under, which brings me to reason two, lighting. Lighting makes a massive difference in hair color. My hair looks like a brassy mess in my cheap yellow bathroom lighting but put me in front of a ring light or outside on a sunny day and I am officially stunning. Or at least above average but my hair IS stunning. And lastly but most importantly (PLEASE PAY ATTENTION LADIES) that model in your Pinterest pic may be on her fourth color session or her fiftieth for all we know. It often takes time, patience and money (yikes, we know that’s not what you wanted to hear) to achieve hair greatness.
What I’m trying to say is that we can give you the hair of your dreams and as close to your Pinterest inspo as humanely possible, but, it may require some styling on your part, good lighting, and most importantly, time. But with patience and understanding we will deliver your ultimate hair dreams. And when we do, you better believe we will be getting out the ring light and posting your picture all over Pinterest. Who knows, maybe our next client will be obsessing over YOUR picture that they saved to their “Hair Goals” board.
Until next time,
The ladies and one gentleman of Olive
Hello again! We’re back with another exciting, hilarious, thrilling, etc etc blog post. And on the agenda today? A nod to our curly haired girls. You know who you are because you’ve been fighting it your whole life. Nearly every curly haired girl goes through it. You hate your hair and straighten it to its death. You decide your hair is worth more than that, so you let it be in all its frizzy glory. You hate that, so you straighten it again. It’s a vicious cycle. And you know what, we don’t feel sorry for you. Us straight haired girls have to watch y’all wake up, throw product in your hair and walk around like a damn mermaid. We spend an hour curling our hair for it to last for exactly 5 minutes before returning to its natural lifeless state. So forgive us for not understanding the pain of your incredible bouncy curls. Eye roll.
Anyway, I went off on a tangent. Curls can be difficult, we do understand that. Especially when you live in the south and it’s 150 degrees outside and 100% humidity. But when you have the proper cut and product, those curls will shine and bounce like they were meant to and you’ll love them the way they deserve to be loved. And you can trust us, because at Olive we specialize in curly hair. That means we have stylist who are educated and trained specifically for your curl. Because let’s be real, there are like 500 different curl types and patterns and sometimes all on the same head. But fear not, we are here for you. We have a group of stylists who have been trained by the Deva curl team and are the ultimate experts on curl. Some of the girls just recently got back from an intensive training in NYC. Rough life, we know, but the girls came back with even more knowledge and excitement for curls. Jenni, a Deva curl specialist at Olive and curl enthusiast tells me, “It doesn’t matter how little of a curl or how frizzy and untamed the hair may seem, we can bring them to life. It’s life changing.” I know what you’re thinking because I thought it too. “Calm down Jenni, I doubt its life changing.” But yall, she’s right. Check out the Olive Beauty Lounge Instagram and you’ll see some Deva ‘Before and Afters’ for yourself. LIFE. CHANGING. Jenni is right, who knew?!
We love, admire and envy your curls and you should too. Who knows, maybe your ‘Before and After’ will make you Insta-famous and launch your hair modeling career and you’ll make millions. But more likely, you’ll just be super confident with your sexy new hair and that sounds pretty fabulous too.
Still skeptical?? Make an appointment for a DevaCurl Style and watch your curls come to life. You don’t have to commit to a Deva cut just yet, the Deva style is a great start. Call us up, your curls are waiting!
Until next time,
The ladies and one gentleman of Olive

Before we dive right into a DIY topknot and the elusive “beach wave”, let’s get to know each other. Olive beauty lounge was born in 2009 in Mansfield, Texas (where all the prettiest girls are from, everyone says it). It was started by three ambitious and hard working leaders, Carrie Johnson, Kyle and Amy Preston. They grew a tight knit team of stylists who are the best of the best. We pride ourselves on delivering the ultimate customer service experience and most importantly, darn good hair. We love continuing our education and traveling the US to gain the knowledge we need to be ahead of all the ever changing hair trends. Our clients are everything to us and they deserve the very best!!
